Pitt’s and Spitt’s has dedicated itself to building Pits that not only look great but also cook great. Other pits just can’t compete. We pioneered the Texas BBQ Pit industry and set the bar for all BBQ Smokers since we opened our doors in 1983. Many companies have tried to imitate our smokers unsuccessfully. In the late 1970's and early 1980's they were known across the BBQ circuit as the "Pitt's and Spitt's Brothers". Wayne and Lawrence Whitworth and Raymond and Dickie Hartis, the original owners of Har-Whit, Inc., have been in the metal fabricating business since the early 1970's. In 1983, the business expanded and the Pitt's and Spitt's retail store was opened.
Today, we make BBQ Pits with the same intensity we did back in 1983. We are constantly upgrading our grills and smokers from the latest in engineering technologies. We make sure that our BBQ Pits look the best and cook the best.
The Pitt's and Spitt's smokers, which are hand-crafted in Houston, are structured so the meat is cooked in the grill area away from the flame. This cooking method enhances
the seasoning of the meat and protects against charring. A firebox is attached on the side and provides the necessary heat to smoke the meat. Pitt's and Spitt's guarantees that the firebox will last a lifetime against burnout.
The stainless steel roll-top lid, thermometer, water reservoir and other features put Pitt's and Spitt's smokers in a class by themselves. Our units come in a variety of sizes and styles. Our "U" and "US" models were the original smokers that Pitt's and Spitt's first made. Since then we have expanded our models to include not only wood smoking, but charcoal grills, gas grills, high pressure burners, outdoor kitchen grills, trailer pits and commercial grade competition trailers. Whether cooking for family and friends, cooking for a company party or competing in a BBQ cook-off, Pitt's and Spitt's has the pit for you. The Pitt's and Spitt's team can build a pit to meet any customer's needs. Our pits can also be shipped to any state or country.
Our popularity continues to grow, as in the 1991 Houston Area Championship Cook-Off, more than 50 entrants used a Pitt's and Spitt's BBQ Pit. At the 2006 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo World Championship Cook-Off, more than 75 entrants were using a Pitt's and Spitt's BBQ Pit! And 2009 looks to be even more promising.
